Relieved that I got there safe and sound, I walk into the office of Terberg Leasing Justlease Belgium, where Erwin Coesens (General Manager Belgium) and Luc Vanderkinderen (Operations and Finance Manager Belgium) are waiting for me. The family tree of these entities goes back to the Netherlands and it has many branches.

Terberg Leasing Justlease Belgium BV is a subsidiary of the Royal Terberg Group, a Dutch family business with various divisions in the market for (specialized) vehicles. For example, the group is a world player in the market of (terminal) tractors and garbage trucks, which you without a doubt have already seen driving by.

Leasing is also one of the core activities (through division Terberg Business Lease Group), both leasing for companies as well as for individuals. In 2018, a Belgian branch was established, with two divisions: Terberg Business Mobility for leasing to the corporate market and Justlease for private leasing. Private leasing is already well established in the Netherlands, but Belgium still lags behind a bit. Erwin and Luc, together with their growing Belgian team of 9 people, are trying to change this.

At first, there was still a Dutch manager in charge, but it soon became clear that the Belgian market also needed a Belgian manager. In 2020, Alost native Erwin took over the helm and tried to get a foothold on Belgian soil in the storm caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The lockdown during the global pandemic was immediately used productively to optimize all processes. Justlease’s contracts are completely digital, so activities certainly did not come to a halt during the lockdown.

 

One key idea: unburdening the customer of any worries

 

According to Erwin and Luc, the reason why people choose (private) leasing can easily be summarized in one idea: the unburdening of customer’s worries! By giving people freedom and certainty, they relieve them of any worries mobility-wise. In addition, everything can be consulted online 7/7; the offer and the conditions are completely transparent.

When these companies grow, Terberg Business Mobility will grow with them.

Are there really no surprises then? According to Erwin and Luc you create those yourself, for example when traffic fines occur. There is the possibility to choose for a flexible kilometer package. The franchise is also very low, and the general conditions have been reviewed and approved by Test Aankoop/Test Achats. The invoicing is also very clearly divided up, and built up according to the options chosen by the customer..

Clients are screened extensively before they can enter into a contract with Justlease. The intention is to grow but not to get as many cars on the road at any cost. Still, a cooperation with debt collection partner TCM Belgium is necessary to solve the invoices that remain unpaid. Even after screening, high-risk profiles still slip through the net, or customers end up in financial difficulties due to circumstances that also prevent them from meeting their obligations.

TCM Belgium visits customers who leave three invoices unpaid, and also follows up on debtors internally. Being quick to respond is very important here. Especially the direct contact through visits as well as the dialogue that is conducted during TCM’s internal follow-up is paying off. Contact is therefore the key word here.

The possibility to follow up the files digitally in an up-to-date and transparent way and to consult them 24 hours a day, as well as to relieve the financial administration, immediately creates a link with the philosophy of Justlease & Terberg Business Mobility.

 

Focus on the future

 

At present, 2000 Belgian B2C customers and 400 Belgian B2B customers can count on the services of Justlease & Terberg Business Mobility. Erwin and Luc’s team hope to support even more customers in the future, by not only focusing on taking care of them, but also by meeting the needs regarding greening.
